Carey Scholars

In 1993, three outstanding young men from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, N.Y., and two outstanding young women from Aquinas High School, Bronx, N.Y. received Carey leadership awards, based on academics, sports and school activities, at graduation. These students have now finished their collegiate careers at Boston College, Harvard, Skidmore, Wesleyan and Yale. Julissa Reynoso, after receiving her degree at Harvard, and a Masters degree from Cambridge, has graduated with a Law Degree from Columbia University. Since this group, fifty more students have been selected to be Carey scholars.

Carey meets with these students and others, during their senior year, to discuss democratic capitalism and their attitude on social progress. This communication continues during their collegiate experience, with two benefits: Carey has a better understanding from their evolving views of what universities are offering; the students have a continuing opportunity to inspect democratic capitalism. Carey receives feedback on articles he sends, students receive continuing modest financial support with the letters.

The financial aid for these outstanding students comes from the Raymond B. Carey Foundation. Financial aid is also provided to Aquinas H.S. and Cardinal Hayes H.S.  The Carey Foundation aid is directed to the development of a curriculum on democratic capitalism for pre-kindergarten to adult education.

Contributions in support of these programs will be gratefully received . Tax deductible checks can be made to:
